On Thursday October 5th at the “Pepes in Paris” event held at the NFT Factory in Paris the new Rare Pepe Wallet was introduced. Rare Pepe artist, scientist, and creator of rarpepewallet.com Joe Looney debuted his new minting feature which removes many of the barriers to creating and minting art on the Counterparty platform.

My art training ended at age 5 and it shows.

The first thing Joe did was hand out blank copies of what is called the “Magic Template.” It is what is used by countless Counterparty artists as their canvas of choice to this day.

Once the crowd started completing their drawings that’s when the magic happened. Joe handed out what he termed a “Mint Pass” to each participant of the workshop. This pass uses the same technology as the Rare Pepe Gift Card (also created by Joe) which gives the user enough Bitcoin and XCP (the native token of Counterparty) to mint your asset, attach an image, increase the supply, and send it to a different wallet (if you so choose).

When you scan the QR code on the drawing page, you were directed to rarepepewallet.wtf. Once there, you were led through the process of creating a brand new Counterparty-aware Bitcoin wallet address for what would be your first asset.

Step 1 is to click “Open Wallet”
Step 2 is to answer “no to using a hardware wallet
Step 3 is to answer “No” to having a passpharase (because you are creating a brand new wallet)
Step 4 is critical! Write these 12 words down or take a screenshot. It is the only way to retrieve your wallet in the future. Once you have the words saved, click “I’ve Written Down My 12 Words”
Step 6 is to password protect your wallet. Once you’ve entered one twice, click “Continue To Wallet”
Step 7 is to mint your new masterpiece. Click “Mint” to begin.
Answer “Yes’ if you’ve been given a Mint Pass
Begin typing the name for your token. As you begin to type, the system will check to see if someone has already minted that name. Remember, it has to be 12 letters or less and can not begin with an “A”. The next 3 fields are optional. Fill them in if you would like. Then click “Upload Your Card”. For the workshop, we used our cellphone to take a picture of the image we drew.
Once you select the image, the wallet uploads it to IPFS, creates a thumbnail, and writes the json file!
Image uploaded to IPFS (the address is in the browser)
48 pixel png file created and uploaded to IPFS
.json file written and uploaded to IPFS.

Once these transactions have confirmed on the blockchain, you will have a token minted on Counterparty in your new wallet with an unlocked supply of 0.

Clicking on “Minted” takes you to your new token and you will see a button to change the supply. Enter in how many of the token you want to mint. CHOOSE WISELY! Your token will be locked and you will never be able to create more of them. Sorry, I didn’t get screenshots of this process.

Once the token quantity transaction has been confirmed you can then move them to your main wallet if you want to.

The final step (optional) would be to transfer ownership of your new token from this new wallet to your main wallet. This is done in the Tools section. Click on “Transfer Pepe”.

If you sent out 100% of the supply and transferred ownership of the token to your main wallet, you have no reason to use this temporary address any further.

I would like to take a moment to thank Joe Loony for his dedication to the Rare Pepe community. Joe has dedicated the past 7 years to creating, maintaining, and improving the Rare Pepe Wallet all for the love of frogs.
